I'm Brian Croston, and if you want the short version: once the system clicks, they stop thinking and just play. I'm Brian Croston and I coach 14-Scarlet at CVA. That's on the back of over a decade coaching. 14s trains differently than any other age, and my practices are built for exactly that. Come watch a session. What happens in my gym says more than anything written here.
Expect sessions that are we start with a lot of skill work building into small sided game play. a lot of contact every practice!. Bad error, bad moment, everyone watching. I give the fix, not the replay. They know they shanked it before I do.
I grew up in Texas (before the turn of the century :) and boys volleyball did not exist at any level. But, I enjoyed playing sand volleyball with my friends. My introduction to the 6 v 6 court game came in my first year of teaching.
I'd rather families hear this from me than guess: every kid on my roster plays. They're young. The scoreboard can wait. I'll save you finding this out in February: an athlete who only wants to hit and skip the rest.
I coached boys soccer and boys volleyball at Milford High School. I recruited one of my soccer player to be my middle blocker and he became so enamored with the game that he is now the Loveland High School boys coach. If the team gets one complaint, it's my coffee intake. I spend the rest of the week as a teacher.
On communication: email me any time and you'll hear back within a day.
