I’ll talk about serve receive longer than anything else because nothing happens until someone passes the ball. I’m Emma Brehm, and I coach 15-Black at CVA. I also spend a lot of time teaching the mental side of the game, because athletes need to know how to reset, communicate, and keep working through tough moments.
My practices are built for high rep volume and game-like play from the first whistle. I want athletes getting a lot of contacts and making decisions in live situations, not standing in lines. I plan each practice carefully and build alongside a head coach at CVA who mentors me, giving my athletes the benefit of a strong training system and another set of eyes.
When an athlete makes an error, I give the fix—not a replay of the mistake. They already know they shanked it. I want them focused on the next ball and on what they can control.
Playing time is earned in practice, and I’ll tell an athlete exactly what they need to do to earn more of it. I believe families deserve direct communication, too. My door is open, with one rule: not in the ten minutes after a match.
I’m a teacher, and I bring that same preparation and clarity to the gym. I played as a libero and defensive specialist, and I can still demonstrate everything I teach. I’m SafeSport trained, background screened, CPR/AED certified, USAV IMPACT certified, and hold a college degree and active teaching license.
And yes, I get loud over a good dig.
