Hitting is the skill I never get tired of teaching. It is the most fun skill in the gym—and one of the hardest to execute when the pressure is on. I played outside hitter at the Division I level, and I can still demonstrate every skill I teach. This season, I’ll coach 17-Red and 14-Red at CVA.
I started coaching right out of college in 2004, and I have coached club, high school, middle school, camps, clinics, private lessons, and youth leagues. In my gym, athletes get a high volume of contacts alongside detailed technical breakdowns. We work the fundamentals that make hitters more confident, servers more consistent, and teams more prepared for the moments that matter.
When an athlete shanks a ball, I do not need to remind her that it happened—she already knows. My job is to give her the fix. I want every player to leave a rep knowing what to adjust and how to take the next ball with more confidence.
I am direct about playing time, too: minutes are earned in practice. If an athlete is not getting the minutes she wants, I will tell her exactly what she can do to earn them. I will push athletes beyond what they think they can do, because growth requires honesty, work, and a coach who believes they are capable of more.
Across the athletes I have coached, 7 of 10 returned for another season, 6 made high school varsity, and 22 went on to play in college. I have also coached teams that finished 19 in Premier at AAU Nationals, 12 OVR boys Gold Champs, and 4th in the nation for 12- boys. Those results matter, but so does the daily work that gets a player there.
Outside the gym, I am a nurse, and I want to impact athletes’ lives on and off the court. You may also hear a few of my puns along the way. I am SafeSport trained, background screened, CPR/AED certified, and hold a college degree and active teaching license.
My door is open for communication, with one rule: not in the ten minutes after a match. Texting is the best way to reach me, and please stop me and say hi when you see me—I love putting faces with names. A team that plays together, prays together, and I am looking forward to building that kind of season with these players.
