You may hear me say the same phrase roughly four hundred times in a practice—but it’s because the little details matter, especially when they help a player make the next ball better than the last one. I want every athlete on my 14s team to have a better experience than I had: clear expectations, real feedback, and a coach who helps them move forward after a tough play.
As a former libero, I love teaching defense and digging. Digging is the skill where effort can matter more than talent, and I want players to learn how much they can control with their focus, hustle, and readiness for the next ball. I also emphasize the mental side of the game, because confidence and composure matter just as much as the physical skill.
Practice starts with position-specific work, then we bring those skills back together as a team. When a player shanks a pass or misses a dig, I give her the fix—not a reminder of the mistake. She already knows what happened. My job is to help her understand what to do next time and give her the repetitions to improve.
Playing time is earned in practice, and I will be direct with athletes about exactly what they can do to earn more minutes. I expect players to work for their opportunities, and I will be there to help them understand the path forward.
I played club volleyball through 18s, still play beach volleyball, and have coached in both club and rec or youth league settings. I still use the system taught by the coach I played for, and we compare notes every week. I’m also CPR / AED certified and background screened.
My door is open for questions from athletes and families, with one rule: not in the ten minutes after a match. Come to tryouts or email me at jordanfiasco83@gmail.com—I’m looking forward to helping this group grow together this season.
